Yes we did it again: SONIC LiQUID – SPH Bandcontest – Prefinal in Bochum, Germany

English: Unbelievable, but true – after successfully passing the 1st preliminary round and the city final, we have also passed the regional final! The Blueshell club was really busy, we were in a good mood and the audience was absolutely fantastic!

Now we are qualified for the pre-final of the SPH-Bandcontest and we’ll play on stage of the Rockpalast / Matrix in Bochum (18th November 2016; see the flyer on the right). I have never received so much great feedback, and our fans really appreciated our new song “It’s Time”.

SONIC LIQUID from Cologne were the fifth band of the evening showcasing their skills. All five musicians seem as if they were created for their instruments. With these, they create straightforward but still diverse rock music, especially the singing expressive voice of singer Robert was especially remarkable. With his sympathetic, authentic and professional style he inspires both the audience and the jury. The whole band is on a high musical level and is thus in second place and in the pre-finals!

Our EP is not yet ready, so you have to be a bit more patient!

Deutsch: Unglaublich, aber wahr – wir haben es nach der Vorrunde, dem Stadtfinale und dem Regionalfinale wieder eine Runde weiter geschafft! Wir waren gut drauf, das Blueshell war richtig voll und das Publikum war absolut fantastisch!

Jetzt sind wir im Vorfinale des SPH-Bandcontests angekommen und spielen am 18.11.2016 im Rockpalast/Matrix in Bochum (siehe rechts im Blog den Flyer). Ich habe noch nie so viel gutes Feedback bekommen und unsere Fans fanden den neuen Song “It’s Time” ebenfalls klasse.

Was will man mehr!?

Hier die Jury-Kritik zu unserer Performance:

SONIC LIQUID aus Köln stellen als fünfte Band des Abends ihr Können zur Schau. Alle fünf Musiker machen den Eindruck, als wären sie für ihre Instrumente geschaffen. Mit diesen erschaffen sie gradlinige aber dennoch abwechslungsreiche Rock-Musik, bei der vor allem der ausdrucksstarke Gesang von Sänger Robert auffällt. Mit seiner sympathischen, authentischen und dabei professionellen Art begeistert er das Publikum genauso wie die Jury. Die gesamte Band bewegt sich auf einem musikalisch hohen Niveau und schafft es damit auf dem zweiten Platz und in die Pre-Finals!

Unsere EP ist noch nicht fertig, also muss man sich noch ein bisschen gedulden!

English: Yes- I know! I did not report for a long time. There was a lot to do, but my band and I also had a short summer break.

Currently I am going to write new songs with SONIC LiQUID to complete a full 1,5-2 h repertoire. 13 Songs are finished and a 14th is in the loop!

Until now we have always presented our fans at least one new song with any of our concerts. Next time at the SPH Band Contest (Cologne, Germany, Blue Shell, 07.10.2016, admittance: 18:00) we’ll perform our very new song „It’s time“. I am very excited and curious how this will be perceived by the audience. A draft can also be listened on www.sonicliquid.de.

We are currently working on our first EP which will contain about 5 songs. Drums, bass and guitar are already completely recorded, but the 2nd guitar and vocals are still missing. After this we’ll need some time for the mastering.


Deutsch: Ja – ich weiss! Ich habe mich längere Zeit nicht mehr gemeldet. Es gab viel zu tun und meine Band und ich haben uns eine kurze Sommerpause gegönnt.

Aktuell bin ich dabei mit SONIC LiQUID weitere neue Songs zu schreiben, damit wir unser 1,5-2 Stunden Repertoire zusammenbekommen. 13 Songs sind fertig und ein 14. ist in Bearbeitung.

Da wir bisher bei jedem unserer Konzerte einen neuen Song vorgestellt haben, wird das bei unserem nächsten Konzert (SPH Bandcontest, Köln, Blue Shell, 7.10.2016, Einlass: 18:00) ebenfalls der Fall sein. Er heisst „It’s time“ und ich bin sehr gespannt und neugierig, wie er beim Publikum ankommen wird. Man kann schon jetzt eine Vorabversion auf unserer Bandhomepage www.sonicliquid.de anhören.

Wir arbeiten zur Zeit an unserer ersten EP, die ca. 5 Songs von uns enthalten wird. Schlagzeug, Bass und eine Gitarre sind schon komplett im Kasten. Es fehlen noch die andere Gitarre und der Gesang. Dann geht’s ans Mastering.

„With SONIC LiQUID, men came on stage, who’ve already done this 2- or 3 times J. That could immediatly be recognized, because the sound on stage as well as the musical interactions were second to none today. Classical Rock & Pop songs are building the base on which the most authentic singer of today was able to blossom and develop, and the sound of the different arrangements are really well considered.“

English: I performed with my band SONIC LiQUID at the City Final of the SPH Bandcontest at the Blueshell club in Cologne on the 8th of May. The crowd was in a really great mood and we got qualified for the regional final (with the bands „Rauputz“, Moja Sound“ and „RegG’s“), which will take place at the Blueshell Club in Cologne on the 7th of October.

Deutsch: Am Sonntag des 8. Mai trat ich mit meiner Band „SONIC LiQUID“ beim Stadtfinale des SPH-Bandkontests im Blueshell in Köln auf. Die Stimmung war super und wir qualifizierten uns zusammen mit den Bands „Rauputz“, „Moja Sound“ und „RegG’s“ weiter für das Regionalfinale, das am 7.10. wieder im Blueshell in Köln stattfinden wird.

English: The last weeks were extraordinary. I had a lot of fun on the different events and it all started already Thursday, 28th of April.

Sarahs concert at the end of April was organized by the department „Composition, Theory of Music and Improvisation“ of the „Rheinische Musikschule Köln“. It was a great event on stage of the „Istituto Italiano di Cultura“ in Cologne with a lot of different, surprising and experimental music performances of young musicians and composers.

Sarah performed her own song „Except for me“ and accompanied herself on the grand piano.

But this was just the preparation for another and bigger event for Sarah. As already reported in an earlier blog, Sarah got qualified for the National Young Musician Music Competition „Jugend musiziert“. This is the biggest and most important music competition in Germany and all 1st price winners in different music categories from all German states came to Kassel and did their best to win a price. Like in the competitions before, Sarah had to play the same songs and I accompanied her with my guitar on one of these.

Sarah won a 3rd price in her category „Pop Chant“ and in her age group she was the only one who won a price from the state NRW. She was super happy and we are all very proud – of course!

Deutsch: Die letzten Wochen hatten es musikalisch echt in sich. Ich hatte viel Spaß auf den verschiedensten Veranstaltungen und es fing schon am Donnerstag den 28.4. an.

Sarahs Konzert Ende April war organisiert vom Fachbereich für „Komposition, Musiktheorie und Improvisation“ der Rheinischen Musikschule Köln. Es war ein toller Abend auf der Bühne des „Istituto Italiano di Cultura“ mit vielen unterschiedlichen, überraschenden und experimentellen Musikstücken der jungen Musiker und Komponisten. Sarah sang ihren Song „Except for me“ und begleitete sich dabei auf dem Flügel.

Aber das war erst die Vorbereitung auf ein anderes und viel größeres Musikereignis für Sarah. Wie schon in einem früherem Blog berichtet, hatte sich Sarah für den Bundeswettbewerb „Jugend musiziert“ qualifiziert. Dies ist der größte und wichtigste Musikwettbewerb für junge Musiker in Deutschland und alle Gewinner des ersten Preises in den verschiedenen Musikkategorien der Landeswettbewerbe kamen nach Kassel und gaben ihr Bestes um einen Preis zu bekommen. Wie schon in den Vorrunden musste Sarah mit denselben 4 Songs antreten und ich habe sie natürlich wieder bei einem Song auf meiner Gitarre begleitet.

Sarah gewann einen 3. Preis in der Kategorie „Gesang (Pop)“ und war damit in ihrer Alterstufe die einzige Preisträgerin aus dem Land NRW. Sie war super glücklich und wir sind natürlich alle sehr stolz auf sie.

English: We recorded our new song „Strong enough“ at Ralphs’ home last weekend. As usual Ralph wrote the music and I took over the melody and the lyrics. There’s really nothing better than creating music we like and of course we are happy and proud about our new „baby“. You’ll find the song attached as Soundcloud file.

Our next concert will be in the Blue Shell Club in Cologne on the 8th of May 2016 (SPH Bandcontest –  City Final). I will explain more about it in one of my next posts.

Deutsch: Ich habe letztes Wochenende unseren neuen Song „Strong enough“ bei Ralph eingesungen. Wie gewohnt, hat Ralph die Musik dazu geschrieben und ich habe die Melodie und den Text dazu gemacht. Es gibt wirklich nichts Besseres als die Musik zu machen, die wir selbst mögen, und wir sind natürlich glücklich und stolz auf unser neues „Baby“. Hier findet ihr den Song als Soundcloud Datei.

SONIC LiQUID – SPH Band Contest @ MTC in Cologne – March, 11th 2016

English: I will perform with SONIC LiQUID in the MTC club in Cologne next friday (11th March, 19:00). This time we will participate at a bandcontest and I hope that a lot of our friends and fans will come to support us. Let’s see! Every band has got approx 25 minutes on stage – so we will perform 5 or 6 songs incl. 1 very new song from our repertoire. We will of course have fun and I am sure that we will celebrate the evening with the over 5 bands.

Deutsch: Ich werde nächsten Freitag im MTC Club in Köln mit meiner Band SONIC LiQUID auftreten (11. März, 19:00). Dieses Mal ist es ein Bandcontest und ich hoffe dass viele unserer Freunde und Fans kommen werden. Wir werden sehen! Jede Band hat auf der Bühne etwa 25 Minuten zur Verfügung – also werden wir 5 oder 6 Songs (incl. 1 neuer Song) aus unserem Repertoire spielen. Sarah Artley – Young Musician regional competition „Jugend musiziert“ – 1st price again!

English: Yes – Sarah did it again! After the successful local contest she won again a first price in the category “Pop chant” in this regional competition. She may now participate at the nationwide contest which will take place in Kassel (12th – 19th May 2016).

She always has to perform the same repertoire, so I am honored to support her again on my guitar in 1 of the 4 songs (1. Joga (by Börk), 2. How come you don’t call me (by Prince), 3. These words (by Natasha Bedingfield et al.), 4. Except for me (this is one of Sarahs songs – she sings and accompanies herself on the grand piano – see my blog posted on the 31st of January).

 

Deutsch: Ja – Sarah hat es nochmal gemacht! Nach dem erfolgreichen Regionalwettbewerb hat sie nun auch einen ersten Preis in der Kategorie „Pop Gesang“ im Landeswettbewerb gewonnen. Sie darf jetzt sogar am Bundeswettbewerb teilnehmen, der in diesem Jahr in Kassel stattfinden wird (12.-19. Mai 2016).

Sie muss ihr Repertoire in den jeweiligen Wettbewerben beibehalten, so fühle ich mich wieder sehr geehrt, sie mit meiner Gitarre bei einem der vier Songs begleiten zu dürfen (1. Joga (von Börk), 2. Latest Version of my Song „Waiting fo a better time“ by SONIC LiQUID

English: I know that my song „Waiting for a better time“ is quite unusual for the repertoire of my band SONIC LiQUID, but it fits perfectly into this blog. I wrote it several years ago and the „Feldmann-Heide-Band“ – one of my first bands – liked the song so much that we arranged it for drums, percussion, 2 electric guitars, 12-string guitar, 2 keyboards, bass and saxophone (Rock/Pop style). Unfortunately I haven’t got a good recording of this version. But I recorded an acoustic version of this song during a live jam session in the south of Germany with my former Band „Backporch Stringband“ and I played my Singer/Songwriter version during the Fête de la Musique in front of the chocolate museum in Cologne last year. So some of these versions can be found in this blog (see 26th April 2014 (Artheater in Cologne), 4th May 2014 (Backporch Stringband) and 6th September (Fête de la Musique)) and in Soundcloud.

The freshest variation of this song is the SONIC LiQUID version, which was video recorded during our concert in the Blue Shell Club in Cologne in November last year. Here you’ll find the YouTube video.

Although this song isn’t new, the lyrics are still current!

Deutsch: Ich weiss, dass mein Song „Waitig for a better time“ recht ungewöhnlich für das Repertoire meiner aktuellen Band SONIC LiQUID ist, aber es passt prima in diesen Blog. Ich habe ihn vor einigen Jahren geschrieben. Der Feldmann-Heide-Band – einer meiner ersten Bands – hat er so gut gefallen, dass wir ihn für Schlagzeug, Percussion, 2 E-Guitarren, 12-saitige Gitarre, 2 Keyboards, Bass und Saxophon in Richtung Rock/Pop arrangiert haben. Davon habe ich jedoch leider keine gute Aufnahme. Dann hab ich den Song in einer Akustikversion mit der Backporch Stringband während einer Jamsession in Süddeutschland live aufgenommen und im letzten Jahr auf der Fête de la Musique vor dem Schokoladenmuseum in Köln gespielt. Ein paar der alten Versionen findet ihr in diesem Blog (26.4.14 (Arttheater in Köln), 4.5.14 (Backporch Stringband) und 6.9.15 (Fête de la Musique).

Die aktuellste SONIC LiQUID-Version wurde während eine Konzertes im November letzten Jahres im Blue Shell Club in Köln aufgenommen. Hört und seht selbst in dem YouTube-Video.

Obwohl der Song für mich nicht neu ist, ist der Text immer noch aktuell!
