English:I performed with my band SONIC LiQUID at the City Final of the SPH Bandcontest at the Blueshell club in Cologne on the 8th of May. The crowd was in a really great mood and we got qualified for the regional final (with the bands „Rauputz“, Moja Sound“ and „RegG’s“), which will take place at the Blueshell Club in Cologne on the 7th of October.
Deutsch: Am Sonntag des 8. Mai trat ich mit meiner Band „SONIC LiQUID“ beim Stadtfinale des SPH-Bandkontests im Blueshell in Köln auf. Die Stimmung war super und wir qualifizierten uns zusammen mit den Bands „Rauputz“, „Moja Sound“ und „RegG’s“ weiter für das Regionalfinale, das am 7.10. wieder im Blueshell in Köln stattfinden wird.

English:I will perform with SONIC LiQUID in the MTC club in Cologne next friday (11th March, 19:00). This time we will participate at a bandcontest and I hope that a lot of our friends and fans will come to support us. Let’s see! Every band has got approx 25 minutes on stage – so we will perform 5 or 6 songs incl. 1 very new song from our repertoire. We will of course have fun and I am sure that we will celebrate the evening with the over 5 bands.
Deutsch: Ich werde nächsten Freitag im MTC Club in Köln mit meiner Band SONIC LiQUID auftreten (11. März, 19:00). Dieses Mal ist es ein Bandcontest und ich hoffe dass viele unserer Freunde und Fans kommen werden. Wir werden sehen! Jede Band hat auf der Bühne etwa 25 Minuten zur Verfügung – also werden wir 5 oder 6 Songs (incl. 1 neuer Song) aus unserem Repertoire spielen. Auf alle Fälle werden wir Spaß haben und ich bin sicher, dass wir den Abend mit den anderen 5 Bands feiern werden.
English: I know that my song „Waiting for a better time“ is quite unusual for the repertoire of my band SONIC LiQUID, but it fits perfectly into this blog. I wrote it several years ago and the „Feldmann-Heide-Band“ – one of my first bands – liked the song so much that we arranged it for drums, percussion, 2 electric guitars, 12-string guitar, 2 keyboards, bass and saxophone (Rock/Pop style). Unfortunately I haven’t got a good recording of this version. But I recorded an acoustic version of this song during a live jam session in the south of Germany with my former Band „Backporch Stringband“ and I played my Singer/Songwriter version during the Fête de la Musique in front of the chocolate museum in Cologne last year. So some of these versions can be found in this blog (see 26th April 2014 (Artheater in Cologne), 4th May 2014 (Backporch Stringband) and 6th September (Fête de la Musique)) and in Soundcloud.
The freshest variation of this song is the SONIC LiQUID version, which was video recorded during our concert in the Blue Shell Club in Cologne in November last year. Here you’ll find the YouTube video.

Deutsch: Ich weiss, dass mein Song „Waitig for a better time“ recht ungewöhnlich für das Repertoire meiner aktuellen Band SONIC LiQUID ist, aber es passt prima in diesen Blog. Ich habe ihn vor einigen Jahren geschrieben. Der Feldmann-Heide-Band – einer meiner ersten Bands – hat er so gut gefallen, dass wir ihn für Schlagzeug, Percussion, 2 E-Guitarren, 12-saitige Gitarre, 2 Keyboards, Bass und Saxophon in Richtung Rock/Pop arrangiert haben. Davon habe ich jedoch leider keine gute Aufnahme. Dann hab ich den Song in einer Akustikversion mit der Backporch Stringband während einer Jamsession in Süddeutschland live aufgenommen und im letzten Jahr auf der Fête de la Musique vor dem Schokoladenmuseum in Köln gespielt. Ein paar der alten Versionen findet ihr in diesem Blog (26.4.14 (Arttheater in Köln), 4.5.14 (Backporch Stringband) und 6.9.15 (Fête de la Musique).

English: As I cleaned my old folders in the attic today, I found an approx. 13 yrs old picture of me singing in a Whiskey bar in Tokyo (Ginza), Japan. It was really an interesting time in Japan! Like Bill Murray I felt a little „Lost in Translation“. This movie directed by Sofia Coppola came out in 2004 – so 2 years later – and it was so funny!
Deutsch:Als ich heute meine Ordner auf dem Dachboden aufräumte, fiel mir ein ca. 12 Jahre altes Foto in die Hände, dass mich singend in einer Whiskey Bar in Tokio (Ginza), Japan zeigt. English:Immediately after I had performed my last German song “Winter”, Hildegart Scholten, one of the 2 moderators of the open stage “Kunst gegen Bares” in Köln, asked me to stay on stage and to spontaneously support her. I was honored to do that. After Gerd Buurmans’ introduction, he told me to repeat my Christmas song “Winter”, because she thought this needs to get some new verses between the original lyrics. I sang my song very softly and she added something ad lib to it – as usual. I have done this with Hildegard Scholten or the fourth time during this year without being informed and without having any rehearsal before the show. Again this was really fun for the audience and for me. Just watch the YouTube video.
Thank you Mrs. Scholten! You are incredible! I hope to see you again next year!
Deutsch:Unmittelbar nach meinem letzten Song „Winter“ bat mich Hildegart Scholten, Comedian und eine der zwei Moderatoren von Kunst gegen Bares in Köln, auf der Bühne zu bleiben und sie zu begleiten. Natürlich habe ich das gemacht. Nach der Einleitung durch Gerd Buurmann, sagte sie zu mir, dass mein Weihnachtslied „Winter“ Zeilen bräuchte, die zwischen den eigentlichen Liedzeilen lägen. So sollte ich leise mein Lied singen und sie würde dann spontan etwas dazu improvisieren. Ich habe dies nun schon zum vierten Mal in diesem Jahr mit Hildegart Scholten gemacht, ohne vor der Show informiert zu sein und geübt zu haben. Dem Publikum und auch mir hat es mal wieder viel Spaß gemacht. Seht selbst in dem Youtube Video.

English:The October 2014 was a great month for me:
I performed 3 of my song songs at KGB in Cologne and
I improvised with Hildegart Scholten on stage of the ARTheater (see above mentioned in this blog)
Due to my Facebook activities old friends found me and I was invited to a jam session in Siegen. This was really great! (see picture)
Since October I am playing in a Rockband in Cologne. It’s fun to create new songs. The Band doesn’t have a name yet and we are starting from the very beginning. I am very excited to see what the future will bring!
But of course – I will continue to do my singer/songwriter stuff 🙂 !

Ich spiele seit neustem in einer Kölner Rockband. Es macht Spaß neue Songs einzustudieren. Wir fangen von ganz vorn an und haben noch keinen Namen. Ich bin daher gespannt, was die Zukunft noch so bringt!
Ich mache natürlich mit meinen eigenen Singer/Songwriter Stücken weiter 🙂 !

English: My 4th live performance at “Kunst gegen Bares” in Cologne was really a great experience for me due to my ad-lib music comedy experience with Hildegart Scholten (see my last blog). This happened close to the end of the show. My real intention was to sing 3 new songs during this evening. None of the artists who are sitting in the auditorium know when it’s their turn to come up on stage. So they wait until the 2 moderators (Hildegart Scholten and Gerd Buurmann) ask them.
My performance was the last one in the first half of the show and I sang my songs “Losing mind”, “I feel free” and “Afraid of you”. Here you find the YouTube-video of the first song “Losing mind”:
German:Die improvisierte Music-Comedy mit Hildegart Scholten machte meinen vierten Auftritt bei “Kunst gegen Bares” in Köln mal wieder zu einer weiteren tollen Erfahrung für mich (siehe letzter Blog). Dieser Auftritt war die vorletzte Nummer des Abends. Eigentlich mache ich keine Comedy, sondern ich wollte 3 meiner neuen Songs an diesem Abend vorstellen. Keiner der Künstler, die im Publikum sitzen, weiß bei „Kunst gegen Bares“ wann genau sie dran sind. Sie warten bis sie von den Moderatoren (Hildegart Scholten and Gerd Buurmann) aufgefordert werden, auf die Bühne zu kommen.
Ich trat als letzte Nummer vor der Pause auf und spielte meine Songs „Losing mind”, „I feel free” und „Afraid of you”. Hier mein YouTube-Video des ersten Songs “Losing mind”:
My last performance at the open stage „Kunst gegen Bares“ in Cologne, Germany on the 20th October 2014 was again something new and very special for me. The comedian Hildegart Scholten, who is one of the 2 moderators of the show, asked me to spontaneously support her after I had already sang my songs in the first half of the show. I already did this twice with Hildegart Scholten as described in previous blogs, but this time she also asked the piano player Daniel Slawik who is performing with her from time to time. So I did not play the guitar, but I just sang spontaneously without knowing anything – neither lyrics nor melody. Everything was improvised – no script and no rehearsal in advance. That was fun and exciting and the audience confirmed with a huge applause that this was also fun for them. Sorry that this music comedy is in German, but maybe all the non-native speakers can feel that this was really an awesome event! You find it on Youtube and here – Feedback welcome!
I have never played a song twice at the open stage “Kunst gegen Bares” until now and so I will play 2 or 3 new songs live a in the Arttheater in Cologne (Ehrenfeldgürtel 127) on the 20th of October 2014. Start will be at 20:00; admittance at 19:00. The tickets are quickly sold out, so if you plan to come, you should be there right in time :-).

I still haven’t found people who want to make music with me, so I have played all the instruments on my own. I really had fun and I hope that someone will like this latest version of my song. But still it would better with others.
I played the 2 guitars, bass, cajon and I sang vocals and backing vocals. Fortunately I bought this Roland hard disk recorder some years ago :-).
I took this song, because I have got a lot of positive feedback about it.
